Cooperative Credit Union launches youth financial education program with My First Nest Egg partnership

Coffeyville, KS (August 5, 2025) |

Cooperative Credit Union, a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution serving Southeast Kansas since 1937, is excited to announce a new partnership with My First Nest Egg, a national leader in youth financial education. This initiative marks a major step forward in Cooperative Credit Union’s mission to provide accessible, real-world financial tools to families and children throughout the Coffeyville community and beyond.

Designed for kids ages 3–13, My First Nest Egg offers a digital-first approach to financial literacy that is both fun and foundational. With tools for chore tracking, allowance management, savings challenges, and goal setting, the program empowers families to build lifelong money habits together. It also includes printable lessons for teachers, expanding the impact into the classroom.

“Children need basic financial knowledge,” said Lyle Martin, President of Cooperative Credit Union. “This partnership is the fulfillment of a long-standing strategic goal at our credit union. For years, we’ve been searching for a meaningful, accessible way to provide financial literacy to the students in our schools. Now, with My First Nest Egg, we can meet families where they are and offer resources that support lasting change. If we can break the cycle of poverty for even one child, we are successful.”

Lyle Martin, who will retire in October after more than a decade of service at Cooperative Credit Union, has championed this project as a key part of his legacy. A coach at heart, he has spent his career solving problems and creating opportunities for others, always guided by the Credit Union philosophy of "people helping people." Under his leadership, bringing financial literacy into local classrooms has remained a top priority—one that is now becoming a reality.

“We are honored to partner with Cooperative Credit Union and help bring Lyle’s vision to life,” said Nicolle Hood, Co-Founder & CEO of My First Nest Egg. “This isn’t just about teaching kids to save—it’s about giving families in Coffeyville the tools to build a better financial future, together. With leaders like Lyle who truly care about their communities, we know real impact is possible.”

This new offering ensures Cooperative Credit Union can provide more than just accounts for kids—it gives them the resources, education, and support they need to build confidence and long-term financial wellness from an early age.
