llinois Credit Union League celebrates CU Kind Day 2025

Naperville, IL (October 16, 2025) |

The Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL) is proud to celebrate another impactful year of CU Kind Day®, its statewide initiative dedicated to spreading kindness and supporting local communities. Held on October 13, 2025, CU Kind Day once again showcased the generosity and commitment of Illinois credit unions and their partners.

A Statewide Commitment to Kindness
This year, 74 credit unions and partners came together with ICUL, highlighting the Illinois credit union movement’s ongoing dedication to service. More than 1,800 volunteers gave their time, contributing 3,400 volunteer hours to make a difference across Illinois. Their efforts resulted in over $81,000 worth of goods and donations distributed to 140 community organizations statewide.

Kindness in Action

Volunteers across Illinois engaged in a wide range of activities to meet local needs, including:

  • Donating funds to vital programs and services.
  • Organizing food, clothing, and supply drives.
  • Volunteering at shelters, food banks, and community centers.
  • Providing school supplies to students in need.
  • Delivering care packages and essentials to families facing hardship.

“CU Kind Day embodies the very best of the credit union movement,” said Libby Calderone, ICUL President/CEO. “Each year we see thousands of volunteers step up to serve their neighbors in meaningful ways. These acts of kindness are not only life-changing for those receiving them—they reaffirm our shared commitment to ‘people helping people.’”

Growing a National Movement

CU Kind Day was first inspired by the Minnesota Credit Union Network’s efforts to spread kindness in their communities. Building on that foundation, ICUL—led by Staci Hering, Director of Culture and Engagement—has played a pivotal role in expanding the initiative beyond Illinois. Through her leadership and by forging strong league partnerships, CU Kind Day has grown into a national movement. This year, credit unions and leagues in eight states joined Illinois in demonstrating how the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” can ripple across the country.
