Commonwealth Credit Union expands youth financial education with My First Nest Egg partnership

Lexington, KY (March 25, 2026) |

Commonwealth Credit Union announced a new partnership with My First Nest Egg, a family-first financial education program designed to help children build healthy money habits early. The collaboration expands Commonwealth Credit Union’s commitment to bettering lives through accessible financial education by providing engaging, age-appropriate content for families, schools, and community partners.
As part of the partnership, Commonwealth Credit Union is introducing a fully branded, co-hosted My First Nest Egg youth financial education website. The site will feature interactive lessons, printable activities, videos, and classroom-ready resources designed to help children ages 3–12 learn foundational money skills in ways that are practical, approachable, and fun. Content is designed to support learning at home, in schools, and through community organizations, reinforcing financial confidence from an early age.

“We’re excited to add My First Nest Egg to our growing financial education programming, expanding the ways we support financial wellness for every age and stage of life. It’s never too early to learn about and practice smart money management, and this program gives children, ages 3–12 fun, age‑appropriate tools to build lifelong habits.” Karen Harbin, Commonwealth Credit Union

President/CEO. “My First Nest Egg aligns closely with our own values, offering a community‑focused resource that helps schools, families, and organizations foster financial confidence from the very beginning. Its values‑driven approach encourages generosity, responsibility, and thoughtful decision‑making through engaging, interactive materials that meet families where they are.” Patty Smith, Commonwealth Credit Union Chief Band and Advocacy Officer.

Guided by its promise “We CU Differently,” Commonwealth Credit Union is committed to empowering individuals and families through education, access, and personalized support. This partnership reflects that mission by extending financial wellness beyond traditional services and into everyday learning moments—at home, in classrooms, and throughout the community.

Co-founded by two mothers and former attorneys, Nicolle Hood and Annie Shoen, My First Nest Egg was created to address the lack of engaging, age-appropriate ways to teach kids about money.

The program transforms complex financial concepts into bite-sized learning experiences through stories, puzzles, and psychology-backed tools designed to help children build confidence and positive habits early.

“At My First Nest Egg, we believe financial education works best when it’s visible, accessible, and consistent,” said Nicolle Hood, Co-Founder & CEO of My First Nest Egg. “Commonwealth Credit Union’s commitment to education across every life stage and its community-first
approach make this partnership a natural fit. Together, we’re equipping families and educators with meaningful resources that help kids build strong money habits long before their first account.”
