The MCU Foundation grants $375k in scholarships to 75 New York City high school graduates

75 rising college students across New York City will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to support their educational expenses as part of MCU Foundation’s ongoing commitment to building brighter futures for all New Yorkers.

New York, NY (June 4, 2026) |

The MCU Foundation, the charitable arm of Municipal Credit Union, announced that 75 high school seniors and recent graduates have been selected to receive the Foundation’s 2026 scholarship award. With $375,000 in funding from the MCU Foundation and additional support from MCU leadership, each student will receive $5,000 to help cover future educational costs.

Through its scholarship program, the Foundation supports the next generation of New Yorkers as they begin their professional journeys, providing both financial assistance and encouragement. Including this year's recipients, the MCU Foundation has now awarded 155 scholarships totaling $775,000 since 2023.

“Education remains one of the strongest paths to economic mobility, but for many New Yorkers, that path is becoming nearly impossible to afford,” said George Chacon, President and Executive Director of the MCU Foundation. “Instead of letting students take on significant burdens that they’ll be paying off decades past graduation, we’re trying to give students the support they need so they can focus on their education and build long-term financial stability.”

“At MCU, we believe financial empowerment goes far beyond banking. It means investing in people and uplifting the communities we serve,” said Kyle Markland, Chief Executive Officer of Municipal Credit Union. “In 2025 alone, the Foundation served more than 350,000 New Yorkers and deployed close to $1 million in service of its mission, and these scholarships are another way of creating more opportunities for our community’s future leaders and their families.”

In addition to the $375,000 in scholarships awarded by the MCU Foundation, Kyle Markland personally contributed $5,000 to continue the tradition started two years ago of awarding the CEO Visionary Scholarship.

The scholarships awarded were to students from all five boroughs of New York City.

The full list of recipients includes students on their way to schools including Villanova University, University of Michigan, Howard University, University of Miami and other prestigious institutions. Students will be honored at the Foundation’s annual scholarship dinner on the evening of Thursday, June 4.
