EL PASO, TX (July 16, 2026) |
GECU, one of the largest locally owned federal credit unions in Texas and New Mexico, celebrated the groundbreaking of its first branch in Odessa, Texas and its second Texas branch outside the El Paso area. The ceremony, which was held on July 15 at 4281 John Ben Shepperd Parkway, marked a milestone in GECU's ongoing commitment to expand access to financial services across West Texas. Reflecting its commitment to the communities it serves, GECU marked the groundbreaking with $7,000 in donations to two local nonprofits.
Community members and local leaders attended a meet-and-greet with GECU leadership. The event celebrated GECU’s continued mission to spread its people helping people philosophy and the opportunity to deliver trusted financial services to more Texans.
"For more than 90 years, GECU has focused on delivering the financial products and services people need to achieve their financial goals," said Alex Rascón, President and CEO at GECU. "We are excited to open our doors in Odessa, a community that truly reflects the spirit of West Texas: deeply connected and where neighbors show up for one another. We're honored to help local families and businesses turn their goals into lasting financial success, and proud to support organizations like Junior Achievement of the Permian Basin and Permian Warrior Partnership."
As part of the celebration, the GECU Foundation presented $3,500 checks to two organizations making a difference in the Permian Basin:
- Junior Achievement of the Permian Basin in support of JA Personal Finance, an innovative program that prepares students for real-world independence by teaching them money management, budgeting, credit building and more.
- Permian Warrior Partnership to support its work serving local veterans, their families and caregivers which includes connecting veterans with employment opportunities, housing resources, VA benefits and community support.
The new Odessa branch will feature the latest in banking technology and personal service including teller drive-up lanes and 24/7 ATMs, and offer a full range of products including checking and savings accounts, auto and home loans, credit cards and more. Membership is open to all residents of Odessa and across Texas. Slated to open mid-2027, updates are available at GECU.com.
