LAKE JACKSON, TX (May 9, 2013) TDECU Board Chairman Marcus Stephenson was recently honored with the prestigious Stephen F. Austin Leadership Award at the 17th Annual Father of Texas Awards Banquet, hosted by The Brazoria County Historical Museum in Lake Jackson.
The Stephen F. Austin Leadership Award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated the leadership qualities – whether in business, industry, civic or political activities – exhibited by the Stephen F. Austin who is recognized as the “Father of Texas.”
Mr. Stephenson is a longtime member of the Brazosport community and is an active and dedicated community volunteer. Since 2000, he has been a member of the TDECU Board of Directors, currently serving as its Chairman. He has also held leadership positions while serving on the Brazoria County Historical Museum’s Board of Directors, the Texas Association of School Boards, the Brazosport Independent School District’s Board of Trustees, the Freeport Recreation Association’s Board of Directors, and the Boys Club of Brazoria County’s Board of Trustees.

During his professional life, Mr. Stephenson spent a majority of his career with The Dow Chemical Company as an internal auditor and fraud examiner. Following his retirement from Dow, he became involved in with the real estate sales industry in Southeast Texas. Mr. Stephenson is a graduate of Brazosport High School and Sam Houston State University. He and his wife, Lila, reside in Lake Jackson and enjoy spending time with their four children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
