SW&M LLP, a leading national law firm serving financial institutions, is pleased to announce that Julia Marina has joined the firm as Senior Associate. Julia deepens the firm's Contract Review, Negotiations & Vendor Management practice, bringing more than a decade of experience advising global financial institutions and fintech companies on complex contracts, payment systems, data privacy, and regulatory compliance.
"Having served as both General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, I've worked firsthand with the legal, operational, and regulatory challenges that come with adopting new technologies and navigating growth," said Julia. "I'm excited to bring that perspective to SW&M and help our clients confidently mitigate risk while seizing new opportunities.”
Julia advises financial institutions and fintech companies on commercial contracts, vendor relationships, payment solutions, data privacy, and regulatory compliance. Drawing on her experience working with regulators such as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), Julia also counsels clients on commercial transactions, data governance, and compliance matters
Before joining SW&M, Julia served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for international fintech companies, where she built and scaled legal and compliance programs across the United States, Latin America, and Europe. That experience gives her a unique perspective on the operational realities clients face, allowing her to deliver practical legal advice informed by both business and regulatory considerations.
"Julia's background is an exceptional complement to our team," said Steve Balian, Managing Partner at SW&M. "Her firsthand experience enhances our ability to support financial institutions as they negotiate increasingly sophisticated commercial relationships while adding valuable insight in payments, privacy, and financial services regulation."
Julia is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), and Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM). She earned her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law and holds a master's degree from Florida International University.
