Meriwest’s Meyer named Volunteer of the Year

Peninsula Family Services honors Community Relations Manager
SAN JOSE, CA (April 30, 2014) -- Peninsula Family Services, a San Mateo County private non-profit organization, recently named Meriwest Credit Union’s Community Relations Manager, Greg Meyer, as their Volunteer of the Year at a recent reception in the City of San Mateo. The honor was also recognized by local Congress Person Jackie Speier as well as a commendation by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. The award was presented by Arne Croce, Executive Director and Rob Lajoie, the Financial Empowerment Program Director at Peninsula Family Services.

Mr. Meyer serves on the advisory board of Peninsula Family Service’s Financial Empowerment Program and sits on the loan committee for the Ways to Work auto loan program for disadvantaged families. He was instrumental in acquiring $30,000 in grant funding from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco to support the Second Careers Employment Program for Older Adults. The program works with seniors and others who have been out of the job market for an extended period of time, teaching them new job and computer skills. Additionally they are coached on development of interview and resume creation skills to assist with employment searches.

“This honor is pretty special to me,” said Meyer. “The program supports disadvantaged families throughout our county. Being on the loan committee is especially gratifying because it relates directly to these families’ economic development. The cars they are able to buy gets them to work on time and helps their kids get to school on time. Many of us take reliable transportation for granted. These families are forever grateful for it.”

“Greg’s participation as a volunteer member on several of our Financial Empowerment Program Committees has really made a difference in the continued enhancement of the programs we offer.” said Rob Lajoie, Financial Programs Director at Peninsula Family Services. “His understanding and empathy for the families that we serve, as well as his ability to bring new concepts and workable ideas to the table, are much appreciated. On top of all this, Greg’s support in bringing in new funding for our Financial Empowerment programs is a wonderful bonus! Greg’s contributions have made a real difference in the lives of our Financial Empowerment Program participants.”
