MC EFCU, which primarily serves Montgomery County government employees, along with members from a variety of other local businesses, is marking their golden anniversary by kicking off a year-long celebration of the credit union in 2018. MC EFCU’s 50th anniversary marks a special milestone, as they have maintained a consistent field of membership and name throughout their entire history.
MC EFCU was established in July 1968 to serve the financial needs of Montgomery County, Maryland, government employees. The credit union’s story began humbly with one employee located in the Montgomery County’s Council Office Building (COB). In the coming decades, MC EFCU would grow and flourish, serving the needs of county employees. After outgrowing the COB and moving to their first branch location in 1974 in Rockville, Maryland, the credit union then relocated the Rockville branch in the early 1990s. A little more than a decade later, MC EFCU opened a new corporate headquarters and branch location in Germantown, Maryland.
“MC EFCU has such a rich and unique history in Montgomery County,” says Jim Norris, MC EFCU CEO. “We’re very proud of our heritage and our commitment to serving the financial needs of Montgomery County employees. The one thing that has continued to make this credit union successful is our focus on growth and asking, ‘what’s next?’ That’s what has allowed us to stay true to our core membership and to who we are through the past 50 years.”
The 50th anniversary will be celebrated throughout the 2018 year with various member activities and promotions, while being commemorated with a limited-edition 50th anniversary credit union logo. The “50th logo” began a soft launch and rollout on January 1, and will continue to pop up through the rest of 2018.
Today, MC EFCU operates three branch locations, including a recently opened location in Silver Spring, Maryland, and corporate headquarters in Montgomery County, Maryland. MC EFCU has grown to over $130 million in assets, with over $100 million in loans in their portfolio. As the credit union looks forward to their 50th year of operation, they are looking forward to strong growth and continuing to serve all of their members’ financial needs.
