Frederick residents cleaned out their offices and brought boxes of personal documents with sensitive information, such as tax forms and bank statements, to shred securely at a Community Shred Day sponsored by Nymeo Federal Credit Union. The free event was held on Saturday, April 14th in the Westridge Plaza Parking Lot on West Patrick Street in Frederick.
Aside from shredding paper, Nymeo’s event also served as a fundraiser to benefit the Frederick County Animal Control & Pet Adoption Center. Community residents and Nymeo members took advantage of the opportunity to dispose personal documents safely, and at the same time, support the local animal shelter. Participants donated over $700 plus pet supplies, such as dog and cat food.
“We are always appreciative of Nymeo’s support as well as the support of their members,” said Shawn Snyder, Volunteer Coordinator of the Frederick County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center. “The recent donations of animal-related goods and money from this community event will help many animals and support our mission of assisting homeless animals. We thank the community and Nymeo.”
Nymeo, a long-standing supporter of the shelter, has sponsored numerous programs in the past.
“We are grateful for everyone who took it upon themselves to be proactive in protecting their personal information by shredding documents, instead of just throwing them out,” said Nymeo’s President and CEO Vicki Johnston. “Nymeo loves animals, and so does Frederick! We were thrilled that many of the event’s participants went the extra mile to donate to the animal shelter. Frederick is a wonderful community!”
All-Shred of Frederick provided the mobile document shredding service and shredded over 9,000 pounds of paper. It is recommended to shred information that includes social security numbers, addresses, bank and credit card account information, medical information and other personal data to prevent fraud and identity theft. Nymeo plans to host another shred event in the fall at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. Please check nymeo.org for more information or call 855-436-4031.
