Donation account established for former Tarrant County Sheriff’s officer wounded in Santa Fe High School shooting

Tarrant County’s Credit Union collaborates with Tarrant County’s Sheriff’s Department to set up a donations account for former Tarrant County Sheriff’s Officer, John Barnes, wounded in the Santa Fe High School shooting on Friday, May 18, 2018.

Last Friday morning, Santa Fe High School in Texas City, Texas, experienced an active shooter on campus, taking the lives of students, teachers and wounding many others. John Barnes, a former Tarrant County Sheriff’s Officer, was wounded after being shot by the suspect. Officer Barnes, now a school resource officer, was first to respond to the shooting to save as many students and lives as he could. This hero, nicknamed “Tarrant County” by his co-workers years ago, is facing an extensive recovery from this tragic experience.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department and Tarrant County’s Credit Union (TCCU) has established an account to receive donations to benefit Officer Barnes. Donations to the Tarrant County Law Enforcement Association (TCLEA) Emergency Relief Fund may be made at any TCCU branch location. All donations will benefit Officer Barnes and his family, during this time.

“We’re part of the Tarrant County family, and not just in name. It’s an honor to be of service to one of our own, especially at a time such as this,” TCCU’s Business Development Coordinator, Melissa Burleson said.
