The first-ever Miriam Lieb Emerging Leader Award was presented by the MD|DC Credit Union Association (MD|DC CUA) to Travis Lane of DOLFCU during the Association’s Annual Meeting & Convention on June 5 in Ocean City, Md. The award honors the legacy of Miriam Rivera Lieb who was a passionate advocate and leader in the credit union movement for more than three decades. She was also a mentor, helping encourage and cultivate the talents of many current credit union leaders earlier in their careers. The award recognizes a credit union professional, 40 or under, who shares Lieb’s dedication to the core principles of credit unions and demonstrates the potential to be a leader.
“Congratulations to all three finalists,” said John Bratsakis, president/CEO, MD|DC Credit Union Association. “They provided thoughtful insights and innovative ideas on how to help credit unions better position themselves as the best financial partners for consumers. It is incredibly encouraging to see the future leaders of the movement embracing innovation, collaboration and commitment to community. I can’t wait to see what they do next! Thank you to CUNA Mutual Group for sponsoring the award and CUNA for donating a conference scholarship.”
The winner was selected from three finalists who participated in three phases of the competition. During MD|DC CUA’s Annual Meeting & Convention, the finalists presented their ideas on how credit unions can better position themselves as the best financial choice for consumers. Attendees voted on the presentations and a winner was determined based on a combination of judges’ evaluations (phase 1), online voting (phase 2) and votes cast by conference attendees (phase 3).
The 2018 Emerging Leader Winner, Travis Lane, is a Business Intelligence Analyst at DOLFCU in Washington, D.C. His presentation focused on the effective use of data and data systems to unlock insights and improve operations to help credit unions of all sizes succeed.
