First Financial FCU and Baltimore County Public Schools spring into summer events

This spring, after completing 165 financial literacy presentations to over 4,000 students during the 2017/18 school year, First Financial FCU is gearing up for a full calendar of summer community events in partnership with Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS).

Kicking off the season, BCPS Parent University hosted by Baltimore County Library, saw First Financial on site for seven Summer Learning Expos. Designed for parents, these sessions were playfully entitled “Summer Learning Rocks 2018” and included information from summer reading and math advice, to community resources and summer camp programs. First Financial FCU representatives were front and center to provide valuable information about budgeting, college savings and credit union resources.

Following the announcements of First Financial scholarship recipients in April, representatives from the credit union have also been visiting local schools to congratulate the winners at their Schools’ Award Ceremonies. Through First Financial’s 2018 Scholarship Program, a total of 51 scholarships totaling $153,000 were awarded.

On June 4th, First Financial set up an informational stand at the Summer Block Party hosted by Deep Creek Elementary School’s PTA.  Students, families and friends came out to celebrate the start of a great summer. Deep Creek’s 1st Annual Summer Block Party featured a live DJ, dancing, games, and food trucks. Baltimore County Public Schools sent the Parentmobile, and the Baltimore County Public Library joined with their Bookmobile. Participants also got an up-close look at a Baltimore County fire truck.

“With the kick off of summer break just ahead of us, we look forward to many more community events with our local schools,” stated Cindy Jones, Youth Outreach Manager at First Financial FCU.
