Financial literacy takes center stage at Chicago Patrolmen’s Federal Credit Union

Celebrating “Back to School” season, Chicago Patrolmen’s Federal Credit Union is pleased to present a diverse lineup of free educational programming through our Financial Planning and Education Center:

Fall Homebuyer Workshop, September 14*: One of the Credit Union’s most popular annual events, this workshop will cover “the ABCs” of buying a home and the variety of mortgage options available, as well as why credit matters and how members can position themselves for success. This seminar will be led by First Chicago Mortgage Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Credit Union.

How to Host a Successful (Charity) Fundraiser, October 12*: Police Officers inherently want to help and take care of others. When something unforeseen happens to a member of the family or community, holding a fundraiser is one way to ease the burden. This Workshop will teach the basics of event planning in order to raise the most amount of money for a cause. This seminar will be hosted by John Gordon, Director of Sales and founder of the Michael P. Gordon Memorial Foundation, as well as former Project Manager for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

29 and a Day or Ready Today?, October 26*: As a Police Officer, “29 Years and a Day" is an important milestone. Plan for life in retirement with strategies for income, including long-term care. This seminar will be led by MAF Companies, the Credit Union's trusted Financial Planning Business Partner since 2015.

"Pop In" with Gwen, Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Our trusted business partner and "credit guru" Gwendolyn Hawkins hosts "Pop In" hours each Tuesday, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., from September through November, at our Headquarters location on Washington Blvd. A 25-year veteran of the Credit Union, Gwen offers free and confidential credit counseling services for members. Visitors of the “Pop-In” program will also enjoy popcorn and be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a $25 Visa gift card.

"Drop-In and Learn" with MAF, September: Our financial planning resource, MAF Companies, continues to host mini financial planning sessions, held weekly at each of our four branch locations during various time slots. Topics change monthly, with September focusing on "Life Insurance." No advance reservations are needed.

*All seminars are held in the Financial Planning and Education Center at our Headquarters location, at 1407 W. Washington Blvd., in Chicago. All programming is offered free of charge, guests are welcome, and refreshments are served.

According to CEO Scott Arney, “We opened our Financial Planning and Education Center in 2002 in support of one of our core objectives, which is to provide members with as much financial education and as many financial options as we can. The FPEC has expanded over the years, but the objective remains the same: every product and service that we offer creates an opportunity for members to gain knowledge, choices, and power as a financial consumer.”

Celebrating our 80th Anniversary year, Chicago Patrolmen’s Federal Credit Union is a full-service financial institution serving the needs of Law Enforcement Officers and their families. This past August, the Credit Union reached another milestone when we officially welcomed our 100th police group into our field of membership!

Led by CEO Scott Arney since 2002, Chicago Patrolmen’s serves over 34,000 members and has assets in excess of $388.2 million. The Credit Union is and always has been administered by a Board of Directors consisting entirely of current and former Chicago police officers.

Most recently, Chicago Patrolmen’s introduced National Police Credit Union, the first and only full-service financial institution created solely for national Law Enforcement Officers and their families throughout the United States.
