With a new school year under way, First Community is back in the classroom delivering their classroom program to local schools. In the 2017-2018 school year, the program was taught to 13,482 students in St. Louis area schools, public and private. It is a fun, interactive program and teaches kids the principles of saving, spending and sharing and how there needs to be a balance between them. Teaching the program is a full-time job for Kelly McCoy, Community Education Specialist. Many schools schedule Kelly on a recurring basis ensuring she is booked as much as six months in advance. Along with the classroom program each student receives a ‘goody bag’ with promotional items and an invitation to become a member that contains a gold one-dollar coin.
“The program has grown consistently year over year.” said First Community President & CEO Glenn D. Barks. “As a parent and grandparent, I feel good knowing that we are partnering with local schools to provide this program in the classroom. It really compliments our Rising STARS kids program that pays a dollar for every A on their report cards. It’s not inexpensive but I think it’s worth it and I am very proud that we can offer it to our communities”.
