University Credit Union awards scholarships to six Maine students

University Credit Union, a statewide credit union chartered to serve University of Maine System students, alumni, staff and their families, announced the recipients of its annual scholarship program for 2018.

“The mission of University Credit Union is to actively advance the financial well-being of our members in every stage of their lives,” said Matthew Walsh, president and CEO of University Credit Union. “Paying for college is often the first significant financial investment a young person makes, and with the cost of education on the rise, scholarships are more important than ever to reduce the debt burden while demonstrating the real value of perseverance and hard work.”

The following students received a $1,000 scholarship from UCU:
• Morgan Lindenschmidt, of Gray, is attending the University of Southern Maine to study Sociology.
• Parker Brownrigg, of Lewiston High School, is attending Maine Maritime Academy to study Marine Engineering Technology.
• Kellen Doyle, of Orono High School, is attending the University of Maine to study Civil and Environmental Engineering.
• Jonathan Neel, of Bangor High School, is attending the University of Maine Farmington to study Biology.
• Sarah Swain, of Hodgdon High School, is attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle to study Environmental Science and Sustainability with a Natural Resources and Environmental Science concentration.
