American Heritage Credit Union donates over 5,800 books to local charities

Members and employees of American Heritage Credit Union recently donated over 5,800 new books to local hospitals, community centers, and special care facilities.

In its ninth year, the American Heritage Books for Kids program allowed members of the Credit Union to become “Book Buddies” for a donation of $3 and affixing an inscription with the donor’s name inside each donated book. The program collected over $14,000, resulting in a donation of nearly 6,000 books. The donated books were delivered to Blue Bell Mission Kids, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Hunting Park Boys and Girls Clubs, Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bucks County, the Ronald McDonald House, Grand View Hospital, KenCrest, Catholic Community Services, Simon Gratz Elementary, Cora Services, St. Francis and St. Vincent.

A special donation of 3,800 books was given to the “Reach Out and Read” program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms by giving new books to children and educating parents on importance of reading aloud.

“Promoting literacy in the communities we serve is one of the cornerstones of our mission,” stated Bruce K. Foulke, President & CEO of American Heritage.  “We are extremely grateful to our Board of Directors, members and employees who contributed to this important cause.”
