Neighbors FCU staff volunteers throughout community for Neighbors Day in Baton Rouge

On Monday, October 8, 2018 Neighbors FCU’s staff took its day off to volunteer with 13 charity organizations and schools throughout the Greater Baton Rouge Area. Around 260 Neighbors employees contributed more than 1,000 hours of service to the community. City of Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome declared the day Neighbors Day live on WAFB.

“Neighbors Federal Credit Union is really showing us what it is to co-create a positive community by reaching out and responding to the different needs in our community by partnering with various organizations,” Broome said.

Some of the collective impact made by Neighbors employees during the second annual day of service included:

  • Preparing food sufficient to make 3,480 meals for families in need
  • Putting together 500 care packages for children in need
  • Caring for 220 shelter dogs
  • Utilizing 6,330 pounds of landscaping materials in a variety of beautification projects
  • Organizing 1,500 articles of clothing

Neighbors Day was established after The Great Flood of 2016. Countless employees and members were deeply affected. Neighbors’ staff went out into the community to support their neighbors in need. Their service left a lasting impression. An annual day of service was established in their honor.

Neighbors’ mission is to not only provide much needed assistance to those in need, but to inspire others in Baton Rouge to give back to the community.

“Neighbors Day was an idea that was planned to begin in 2016," Neighbors CEO and President Steve Webb said. “Unfortunately our community was ravaged by the Great Flood, so we encouraged our employees that did not sustain damage to assist their family, friends and neighbors during this difficult.”
“So although we had to cancel our formal event in 2016, we saw the value of helping those in need and we are committed to this event year after year.”
