San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, was presented with a 2019 Star of Touring Broadway Award at the latest Broadway San Diego Awards. The awards ceremony was held May 26 at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego.
The Star of Touring Award is part of the annual Broadway League Awards, which honors excellence and achievement for Touring Broadway. The awards recognize the contributions to those who have displayed exemplary service to the Broadway industry and are considered innovators of their craft.
“SDCCU is honored to be acknowledged with the Star of Touring Broadway award,” said Teresa Campbell, president and CEO at SDCCU. “As a dedicated community partner, our presenting sponsorship of Broadway San Diego is one of many ways SDCCU supports the arts in San Diego and gives back to the community.”
SDCCU has been the title sponsor of Broadway San Diego for 13 years, acting as a community ambassador for the touring Broadway Productions, and was a big contributor of the inaugural Kids’ Night on Broadway in San Diego. Additionally, in just the last four years, SDCCU has donated over $40,000 back to the San Diego County community using Broadway San Diego’s Group Sales programs for fundraising, most recently with Cats benefiting the San Diego Humane Society.
For the past six years, SDCCU has supported The Broadway San Diego Awards, the local arm of the National High School Theatre Awards® (The Jimmy Awards®). Each season, we recognize a Local Best Theatre Teacher as part of the program, which is voted on by the San Diego Community and includes a grand prize of an all-expenses paid trip to New York to experience The Jimmy Awards first-hand.
