CASE Credit Union welcomes veterans to identity theft prevention program

Luncheon presentation also includes information on vulnerable adults

CASE Credit Union welcomed veterans to its first of four enrichment events in Lansing-area communities today, presenting a program on identity theft and vulnerable adult abuse.

The luncheon discussion was presented by Tom Holcomb, financial abuse investigator for the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan. Holcomb explained how to spot common scams as well as family members or caregivers scheming to obtain money from vulnerable adults.

CASE Credit Union also made key resources available to the veterans and members of the public, including Capital Area Community Services, the Lansing Board of Water & Light, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Tri-County Office on Aging, and Legal Services of South Central Michigan.

“We are very pleased with the turnout and honored to be able to inform our veterans about identity theft and elder abuse,” said Molly Summerfield, CASE Credit Union’s vice president of marketing. “We were able to give these heroes access to key resources and local community partners.”

Holcomb then consulted with several of the veterans who wanted additional information and told the veterans they can contact him with questions or concerns that they have been the target of scams.

CASE Credit Union provided the veterans with the website where they can obtain free credit checks to ensure nobody has stolen their identity.

Dean Transportation provided transportation service to and from the event. The After Shave Barbershop in Okemos provided certificates for services to the veterans.
