CUTEK, a nationwide provider of IT products/services for credit unions, has created a “transaction round-up” module called “Charity Jar” that allows credit unions to promote charitable giving. Charity Jar’s streamlined interface lets members choose which card (ATM or debit) they want attached to the program. Transactions are then rounded up to the next whole dollar amount, and the collective of funds is directed to the credit union’s chosen charity.
According to CUTEK Vice President of Sales and Client Relations Dawn Murray, in addition to rounding up charities, the program can also be used for building up a member’s savings account – the module’s “Savings Jar” option. This option leverages the “transaction round-up” engine so the round-up money is directed to the members savings account.
“This interface really gets two birds with one stone, letting a little change make a big impact in a member’s savings account and their charities of choice,” says Murray. “We see this module helping people save when they don’t even realize it – which allows them to build a financial buffer in the event of an emergency or save for a big purchase. It also benefits the charities they really believe in – all with minimal effort. You set it and forget it – and watch your savings and charity giving grow.”
