Unitus Community Credit Union donates $250k+; earns top 5 placement in Portland Business Journal Philanthropy Honors

Portland Business Journal’s annual ranking of corporate generosity shows Unitus and other credit unions firmly in the Top 5

Donations of more than $250,000 to Northwest nonprofits in 2019 earned Unitus Community Credit Union a Top 5 placement last week at the Portland Business Journal’s Corporate Philanthropy Awards.  The award recognizes Unitus’ charitable giving programs and commitment it represents to the community. This is the 10th consecutive year Unitus has earned this honor.

Unitus joined other credit unions earning accolades across the categories (divided into small, medium, and large companies), representing the virtues of the Credit Union Movement in a powerful way. For scale, enterprise giants Nike and Intel were among other companies recognized at the event, ranked according to their financial contributions.

“Removing barriers in our communities and inspiring hope is the purpose of our work every day,” said Steve Stapp, Unitus President/CEO. “I’ve seen firsthand how the credit union movement has enabled individuals and families to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life. That’s what we strive for at Unitus.”

Unitus invested more than $250,000 into the communities they serve through the greater Portland Metro area, Salem, and Vancouver in 2019. In the same year, Unitus employees volunteered3,234 hours across more than 130 local nonprofits, schools, and organizations. Unitus also taught 158 financial education seminars to over 2,600 students ranging in age from K-12 to young adult and provided 23,343 meals to hungry neighbors and families.

“Our members and staff make this possible,” added Aimee Berg, Unitus’ Community Development Manager. “It takes investment from all of us to make real change possible.”
