Hundreds of community members will shine the light on the issue of human trafficking with a special walk across the Cable Bridge Friday afternoon. In partnership with Numerica Credit Union, the Support, Advocacy & Resource Center (SARC) organized the Bridge the Gap Human Trafficking Awareness Walk.
SARC has served more than 500 survivors of human trafficking — mostly local women — since the program’s expansion in 2017. The organization provides essential services like a 24/7 crisis line, legal and medical advice, and on-site counseling.
“Numerica is honored to support events like this as we’re seeing human trafficking in our own neighborhoods,” said Carla Cicero, Numerica president and CEO. “Raising awareness is a crucial step toward protecting victims and stopping this unthinkable crime. It is inspiring to see how many people continually come out to make a difference.”
The walk is part of how SARC is marking National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Throughout January, SARC will be providing education on human trafficking with partners and at community events.

Numerica also partners with SARC’s flashlight campaign, which encourages financial institutions to be aware and recognize red flags for deposits and withdrawals by human trafficking perpetrators. The sponsorship of the Bridge the Gap walk is part of Numerica’s belief in building safer communities for its members to live well.
