Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $2,500 to Daisycares

Providing pet food supplies to local pet owners

The Security Service Charitable Foundation has donated $2,500 to San Antonio-based DaisyCares. The non-profit partners with the San Antonio Food Bank in an effort to provide free pet food to community members and their four- legged companions in need. This donation will help to provide 25,000 lbs. of food to approximately 1,250 needy pets.

“This is a much-needed service for the families experiencing hardship throughout South Texas,” said Saskia Herbst, Program Manager for DaisyCares. “The sad reality is when families and individuals struggle to feed themselves, they often have to consider surrendering their beloved pets because they can no longer properly care for them.”

Since its founding in 2009, DaisyCares has helped over 500,000 cats and dogs by providing their owners with free access to pet food and offering financial aid towards veterinary care. The organization also offers educational programs for children and adults, Project Kindness and PAWedu, teaching proper care and treatment of all animals.

“Pets become a member of your family,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “Being able to provide food for a family’s pet will help lift the burden of a family in need.”

DaisyCares prides itself on aggressive growth goals in assisting pets and families within the community. In 2019, 289,742 lbs. of pet food were distributed by the nonprofit. In 2020, that number more than doubled to over 690,361 lbs. of cat and dog food provided to community families and pets. Currently, in 2021 roughly 2 million lbs. of pet food have been raised through donations, volunteers, pet food drives and drop-off sites.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
