Consumers Credit Union is excited to announce a new financial literacy project with local celebrity Wimee, a robot puppet featured on WGVU/WGVK PBS, created by military veteran and Consumers CU member
Michael Hyacinthe.
The partnership will bring 12 episodes of “Money Minutes with Wimee and Friends,” a video segment for preschoolers and families with young children. Additionally, the project will also include fun for all ages throughout the year across the Consumers CU social media channels.
Hyacinthe, CEO and founder of Wimage, has been a member with Consumers for five years. Upon leaving the U.S. Navy, Hyacinthe was devoted to finding his life’s next great purpose.
That’s when Hyacinthe created Has Heart, a Michigan-based non-profit that brings military veterans and artistic communities together to foster healing through creativity. From that endeavor, and with a few twists and turns throughout the middle, Wimage was born, an app that turns words into images.
“I grew up in New York City where creativity is included in every aspect of our life,” said Hyacinthe. “So as current resident of Michigan, I’m hoping to bring that same creative energy to the work I do to impact people all around the country. I’m constantly trying to discover new ways to use that creativity to support wounded veterans or help children learn.”
“’Money Minutes with Wimee and Friends’ is such a fun, creative way to begin building the foundation of financial knowledge for kids,” said Lynne Jarman-Johnson, Consumers CU’s chief marketing officer. “This partnership is just the start of many exciting financial education opportunities that we are readying for our membership.”
Let’s learn about coins in our first episode of “Money Minutes with Wimee and Friends!”
In office and online, Consumers CU currently serve more than 120,000 members in West Michigan with 23 locations and over $1.8 billion in total assets. The credit union has averaged 18% annual growth for over the past 35 years and looks forward to continuing this trajectory by expanding its services into other new markets in the coming year, including Lansing and Muskegon.
