The Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) Board of Directors announced its nomination of Dayatra (Day) Matthews for the CUNA Board of Directors Section Class C — Nationwide seat. Matthews is the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for LGFCU and its affiliated Credit Union, Civic Federal Credit Union (Civic), and has significantly impacted the credit union movement.
Matthews is running as a candidate for the soon to be vacated seat currently held by Maurice Smith, who is retiring as LGFCU and Civic FCU CEO in January 2023. Class C credit unions are those with at least 204,000 members.
When the process opened, the LGFCU Board made its nomination official by submitting Matthews’ name, with the nomination seconded by both Jim Hayes, CEO of State Employees’ Credit Union, North Carolina, and Christina O’Brien, CEO Robins Financial, Georgia. A detailed biography and list of Matthews’ credentials will be provided for the electorate’s consideration. An excerpt of Matthews’ credentials is provided below.
