First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in the Lehigh Valley and a nationally recognized leader for financial strength, member service, corporate social responsibility, has launched two new Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Through its “Year of Giving” and Random Acts of Kindness, First Commonwealth FCU has made a meaningful impact within the communities they so proudly serve.
To celebrate its $1 billion milestone (achieved at the end of 2021), First Commonwealth invested $100,000 back into local communities through its “Year of Giving” campaign. “With the mission of empowering the pursuit of financial happiness and core values of honesty, innovation, generosity, humility, excellence and respect, our purpose drives us in everything we do, including how we serve our membership and support our communities. We are about people, not profits. So naturally when we surpassed $1 billion in assets, a significant milestone in the credit unions 60+ year history, we knew we wanted to share our success with our members and communities in a special way,” said Donna LoStocco, President and Chief Executive Officer of First Commonwealth.
Throughout 2022, the First Commonwealth FCU WE Thrive Foundation made generous contributions to local charitable organizations within the following areas of focus: Family & Youth Services; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Homelessness & Housing; Education & Wellness. “As a member-owned financial cooperative, what’s important to our members is important to us. That’s why we asked our members to provide their input, which helped us determine the charitable organizations we invested in and gave to,” added LoStocco. The following 13 organizations were selected as “Year of Giving” recipients:
- Bethlehem Emergency Shelter
- Folds of Honor
- Kellyn Foundation
- Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living
- Literacy Center
- Norwescap
- Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley
- Ripple Community
- Safe Harbor Easton
- Tails of Valor
- The Shanthi Project
- Turning Point of Lehigh Valley
- Valley Youth House
To complement its “Year of Giving” campaign, First Commonwealth FCU also launched a Random Acts of Kindness initiative, in which First Commonwealth employees went to businesses surrounding their 12 financial centers and conducted random acts of kindness. Through their efforts, First Commonwealth employees paid the bill for 95 individuals and supported 20 local businesses. “While of Year of Giving campaign was geared towards non-profit organizations, this initiative provided us with the opportunity to give back in different ways - supporting small, locally-owned businesses and individuals in need within our communities,” said LoStocco.
Through the focus of its Corporate Social Responsibility teams, First Commonwealth strives to do the most good for the most people.
