It’s hard to believe it’s already been twelve months since I joined CUInsight as CEO. What a year it’s been, full of learning, listening, and discovering even more about what makes this industry so special. Every conversation, event, and partnership has reminded me of the cooperative energy that sets credit unions apart.
Over the past twelve months, I’ve had the chance to connect and reconnect with many of you at CUInsight Collaborator and Partner events, facilitated panel discussions in person and virtually, and have had strategic dialogue with leaders from a wide variety of credit union providers. Those moments have given me a deeper understanding of the digital media landscape and the power of strong, purpose-driven content designed to inform, inspire, and unite our industry.
The CUInsight team has been relentless in its efforts to deliver meaningful, differentiated content—from educational resources, virtual events, and podcasts to articles and video interviews that shine a light on the strategic and operational issues shaping our collective future. It’s been inspiring to see the ways this community continues to learn from one another.
But this first year has also revealed a challenge I didn’t expect to see so clearly. Despite my many years in the credit union space, this role has given me a new perspective. And as someone deeply invested in this movement, I feel compelled to issue a call to action.
When the topics are light or entertaining, engagement thrives. But when the questions get tough—when we ask for dialogue about critical issues, emerging solutions, and operational barriers—the response too often sounds like crickets. This is true in-person, via online learning, and even in social media channels.
It's not a lack of capability or caring; it’s a hesitation to lean into the hard conversations that matter most. I’ve seen what happens when that silence breaks and the dialogue is dynamic and impactful, but it’s still too uncommon.
When we hold back, ideas stay siloed. Opportunities stay hidden. The cooperative advantage that should be our greatest strength loses its edge. Meanwhile, the challenges facing us aren’t slowing down. The conversations about data, delivery, talent, and trust need to happen now, and they need to include all of us.
So, here’s my challenge as I move into year two: Let’s make dialogue part of our strategy.
Be the one who goes first. Share the question that’s been on your mind, the success you didn’t expect, or the challenge you haven’t solved yet. (The CUInsight.com LinkedIn Group would be a great place to do so!) Offer your thoughts when questions are asked or challenges are surfaced. Encourage your teams to not just attend professional development events, but to engage and share their experiences, both wins and struggles. Networking matters, but genuine idea exchange within events and forums, whether in person or online, is what truly strengthens our collective impact.
And this isn’t just about individual behavior. It’s about culture. Together, we can create an environment where people feel safe and motivated to speak up, challenge, and collaborate.
The cooperative movement was never built on silence. It was built on the courage to speak up, share ideas, and act together. As we look toward 2026 and beyond, let's transform those crickets into conversation and make this next chapter one defined by collective strategy, not cautious quiet.
Here’s to a remarkable first year and to the engaged and connected years ahead.
