Advocacy makes unified credit union voice heard on Capitol Hill

Commonwealth Credit Union President/CEO—and America’s Credit Unions Transition Board secretary—Karen Harbin testified before a House Financial Services subcommittee Thursday on behalf of America’s Credit Unions.

The hearing covered increasing politicization of regulations and Karen told the subcommittee that regulatory burdens place significant barriers between credit unions and Americans in need of safe and affordable financial services.

She specifically shared our concerns with:

• The broad use of the term “junk fees,” which conflate regulated fees that consumers opt into with surprise hotel, ticket, and airline fees.
