Have an EGGcelent Easter without breaking the bank

Easter is almost here and that means it’s about time to hide the eggs and indulge in some sweet treats. If you’re like me, you want to ensure your children have the most fun they can on this springtime holiday, but that can often come at a price. On this year’s holiday, Americans are expected to spend about $18.4 billion. Below are a few ways you can celebrate without putting a dent in your wallet.

Reuse baskets and décor

Instead of buying baskets that feature the latest characters and trends, opt for ones that are simple and will work for any age. That way you won’t have to purchase a new one each year. Additionally, when the holiday is over, store your décor and accessories (plastic eggs, Easter grass, etc) as these items can be used again and will save you from spending more money next year.

Make it a potluck dinner

Easter is a time for coming together with family and friends so if you decide to invite others over for a meal, ask them to bring a dish to share with everyone. That way you won’t be responsible for everything and can save money by only providing part of the feast. Ask your guests what they wish to bring and plan accordingly. Give small gifts and keep those coupons

Luckily, my three-year-old is not (yet) aware of name brands so I am able to save by grabbing small gifts for his basket at the dollar store. For those with children who do like certain popular toys, be on the lookout for holiday circulars. When flyers and coupons arrive in the mail it’s easy to quickly throw them out. But, when a holiday is around the corner, keep your eye out for deals. For example, Toys “R” Us recently mailed out an Easter-themed catalog including a 20% off coupon.
