200,000 Members Strong: BCU Celebrates Major Milestone
CHICAGO, IL (July 13, 2015) — BCU had hundreds of thousands of reasons to celebrate today as the Credit Union announced its membership has surpassed the 200,000 milestone. The announcement comes less than a year after the Credit Union reached $2 billion in total assets.
Founded in 1981 by employees of Baxter Travenol, BCU today ranks in the top 100 largest credit unions in the United States and fourth biggest in Illinois. Recognized as the fastest growing credit union in the last 30 years, BCU has averaged over 9% annual membership growth since 2011.
BCU President/CEO Mike Valentine, who has been at the helm of the Credit Union since 1994, pinpointed the driving force behind the organization’s successful growth during his tenure of more than thirty years: “A huge amount of credit goes to the BCU staff who over the years have worked tirelessly to make sure we deliver on our brand promise, We’ve Got Your Back. We’ve been so blessed to have employees who inspire members to spread the word about BCU.”
Valentine went on to highlight the key role played by BCU’s partnering Select Employer Groups. “We couldn’t have achieved this growth without our sponsor companies,” Valentine said. “Through these tremendous relationships, we’ve have many opportunities to be successful one very important member at a time!”
The President/CEO also commended the members themselves. “We’ve had such great levels of member loyalty over the decades,” Valentine said. “The people we serve haven’t just stuck with us, they’ve gone out and recommended us to their family, friends and co-workers.”
In 2014, BCU marked its 10th consecutive year on the Companies that Care Honor Roll, donating over $290,000 to worthy causes. The year 2014 also saw BCU named a Chicago Tribune Top 100 Workplace for the third year in a row.
