2018 charity sporting clays tournament raises $19,535 for tuition assistance fund

BATON ROUGE, LA (March 20, 2018) — With funds raised in 2018, Neighbors intends to award $30,000 in tuition assistance to 2019 graduating students at 11 participating high schools in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

The Neighbors Capital Area Foundation’s 5th annual “Clays For A Cause” charity sporting clays tournament grossed $19,535 netting a $12,356 contribution to the Neighbors Way Tuition Assistance Fund. In addition to these funds, Neighbors has pledged $14,549 to the fund internally through the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation Employee Payroll Donation Program.

“We cannot be more excited for this tremendous impact on the lives of local students,” Neighbors President and CEO Steve Webb said. “As the cost of higher education continues to rise, funds like these become increasingly important to provide an opportunity to students who might not have otherwise had the means to attend college.”

Through funds raised in 2017, Neighbors is contributing $15,000 to 2018 graduating students at participating high schools. The tuition assistance is granted to students at schools that participate in the Neighbors Mascot Checking Program. This program gives money back directly to the school for every debit card swipe. Thus far, the program has given more than $28,000 back to the 11 participating schools.

“After a great start to 2018, we plan on giving no less than $30,000 to graduating seniors in 2019,” Neighbors Community Outreach Coordinator Kacie Bizot said. “We’re looking forward to continuing the growth of this program and to paving a pathway to success for local students.”

Neighbors will host the 6th annual “Clays For a Cause” charity sporting clays tournament April 12, 2019, at the Bridgeview Gun Club in Port Allen, Louisiana. About Neighbors Federal Credit Union

Neighbors Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative operating as an  association dedicated to "people helping people." A handful of educators started Baton Rouge  Teachers in 1954 with a shoe box, a couple hundred dollars and the goal of making financial  services available to school system employees in our area.   Now, Neighbors Federal Credit Union is the largest community-chartered credit union in the  state of Louisiana with over 80,000 members and over $1 billion in assets. Since that time,  Neighbors has undergone a variety of changes, but the mission has stayed the same: Enhance  members' financial well-being and be a partner in the communities Neighbors serves.
