Afena Federal Credit Union breaks ground to begin construction of new corporate headquarters

MARION, IN (May 2, 2022) — Afena Federal Credit Union broke ground at the site of their new corporate headquarters on April 27 in Marion, Indiana. The event included a blessing from Reverend Larry Batchelor, and remarks from Afena Board President, Nate McNeely, Afena President/CEO, Karen Madry, and City Council President, Brian Cowgill.

Councilman Cowgill thanked the Credit Union for its work in the community, stating, “Afena is truly a credit union for the people!” As Grant County’s only Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Afena is mission-focused on providing affordable, high-quality financial products and services to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Grant and Wabash counties—especially financially vulnerable individuals and families.

Afena Federal Credit Union President/CEO, Karen Madry, thanked staff and members for their patience as the Credit Union looked for just the right location. “A few years ago, I made a commitment to our staff to address the North branch building, and we finally found just the right location for our new home. I am so thankful to our staff because this is only possible through their hard work and dedication,” said Madry.

“The continued growth and success of Afena as an organization speaks to the critical need for the work we are doing as a low-income designated credit union in our community,” she stated, continuing; “I’m so excited to see the vision for this new building come to life, because the vision isn’t just about a building. It’s about expanding financial opportunities in our community. It’s about creating equitable access to high-quality, affordable financial products and services.”

The new building is scheduled to be completed in early 2023 and will feature nearly 10,000 square feet of space to provide ample room for future growth, it will also include a full-service branch and the very latest in interactive banking technology.
