Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union breaks ground May 2 on new Grand Rapids branch
ST PAUL, MN (May 3, 2018) — Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union broke ground Wednesday, May 2, on a new Grand Rapids credit union branch that will open by the end of 2018.
The groundbreaking was held at the site of the new community branch, 2120 SE 2nd Ave., one block off of Highway 169, on Grand Rapids’ south side and directly behind the Target store.
Affinity Plus has a strong, continuing commitment to the Grand Rapids community, opening its first branch in 1993. Currently, the credit union employs 48 individuals in two branches and a call center.
“Affinity Plus has served so many loyal members in this community over our 25-year history. They deserve a new branch that is welcoming and that they can be proud of,” said Ann Mack, Grand Rapids branch manager. “With this new branch, our roots will grow even deeper into this community and region.”
The new branch will feature a multi-lane drive thru, spacious lobby and private meeting areas. It also will incorporate Affinity Plus’ new “next-generation” branch format, which features contemporary design and furnishings, expanded technology and digital marketing. This will be Affinity Plus’ first full build project with this new format.
“Throughout Minnesota, branches are still vital to Affinity Plus, even as we move forward in this digital era,” said Taylor Murray, vice president of branch operations.
Murray noted that Affinity Plus launched a new mobile-banking app and online banking systems in April. “We understand that a lot of our members want to self-serve as much as possible for their daily financial needs,” he said. “But when they have questions or need advice and support, they often want to talk to a person they know and trust.”
Affinity Plus is working with Minnesota companies on the project, including The Boldt Company of Grand Rapids as the general contractor, several local subcontractors, and HTG Architects of Eden Prairie, Minn.
Affinity Plus serves more than 10,000 members in Grand Rapids and its surrounding communities. It is a full-service financial institution with a robust suite of personal savings, checking and lending options, as well as student loans, estate planning and retirement planning services, and an investment center that is not paid on commission.
