Award-winning author Peggy Shinn to appear with Vermont Distinguished Writers Series at NEFCU

WILLISTON, VT (September 14, 2018) — Peggy Shinn, (www.pegmcshinn.com) author of “World Class—The Making of the U.S. Women’s Cross Country Ski Team,” will appear as part of the Vermont Distinguished Writers Series at New England Federal Credit Union (NEFCU).  Shinn’s presentation will take place on Tuesday, September 25, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at NEFCU’s Education Center located at 141 Harvest Lane in Williston.

Shinn is a four-time winner of the prestigious Harold Hirsch Award and has covered five Olympic Games. Her latest book is an exciting depiction of how Americans Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall stunned the world by winning the first Olympic gold medal for the U.S. in cross country skiing at the PyeongChang Winter Games. In a larger sense, Shinn explores the unprecedented recent success of the U.S. Women’s Cross-Country Ski Team, which won eight medals at three world championships in the five years preceding PyeongChang.  Shinn’s book, which includes many interviews with racers, coaches, parents, spouses, and friends, reveals the countless obstacles America’s female athletes must overcome to compete with—and beat—the world’s best.

The appearance will feature images and video from the PyeongChang Olympics and a question and answer period. Light refreshments will be served.

The Vermont Distinguished Writers Series presented by NEFCU is now in its eighth year. Past appearances have featured Howard Frank Mosher, Reeve Lindbergh, Katherine Paterson, Archer Mayor, Steven Kiernan, Sabra Field, and Edward Koren, to name only a few. Appearances are free and open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required. More information is available by calling (802) 879-8790 or at nefcu.com.
