Buzz Points brought their “bee game” to 2015 Startup Games

AUSTIN, TX (January 29, 2015) — Competition was stiff at Saturday’s Startup Games in Austin, Texas. Fifteen companies came together to raise money for charities by competing in events like foosball, shuffleboard, ping pong and darts. The sun was out, the music was blasting, and the energy was undeniable all afternoon.

Starting with the opening ceremonies, it quickly became clear that the startup community does not mess around when bragging rights are on the line. Each company put their best athletes forward, and they all stepped up to the plate.

But perhaps one of the biggest (pun intended) surprises on Saturday was the lighting of the torch by Hafthór “Thor” Björnsson, the 2nd strongest man in the world. Many people know him as “The Mountain” or Gregor from the popular TV show, Game of Thrones.

In total, the companies raised $50,000 for their chosen charities. Buzz Points played on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project, which supports injured veterans and their families.

This was Buzz Points’s first time participating in the Startup Games, and they were proud to take home 8th place overall. It was a particularly successful day for Client Services Account Executive Greg Shultz, who earned 1st place in the ‘Mystery Event’ – a measure of balance and agility. After having secured his spot at the top, Greg fell only to The Mountain.

Employees had a great time cheering on their teams, and were honored to raise money for a great cause. Now, having sized up the competition, Team Buzz Points is ready to be a contender in next year’s games. While they may have brought their “bee game” in 2015, next year it will be nothing but A-Game.
