Call Federal Marathon Jr. receives National Award

RICHMOND, VA (March 4, 2015) — The Call Federal Marathon Jr., a Richmond kids run organized by Sports Backers and sponsored by Call Federal Credit Union, has been recognized as the best youth running event in the country. The award for Youth Running Event of the Year was announced February 10th at the annual Running USA industry conference, held in New Orleans.

The award is part of Running USA’s youth initiatives, which focus on the benefits of youth running, combatting obesity, and supporting family and youth running programs.

The Call Federal Marathon Jr. is a key part of Sports Backers’ Kids Run RVA initiative to promote physical activity to youth across the Richmond region. Call Federal has been the title sponsor of the Marathon Jr. since it started in 2012, and just signed on for the 2015 event.

The 2014 Call Federal Marathon Jr. drew more than 1,070 local children, which was a registration record. Held on October 25, 2014 at Byrd Park, the event featured a half-mile and a one-mile run along with a festival of family-friendly activities. It is part of the Anthem Richmond Marathon and is a culmination of many school and community running clubs’ training efforts supported by Sports Backers’ Kids Run RVA initiative throughout the Richmond region.
