Canvas delivers 6,450 pairs of socks to local homeless shelters

Colorado communities rally with credit union providing warm feet those in need

DENVER, CO (January 3, 2019) — Canvas Credit Union delivered 6,450 pairs of donated socks to several Colorado homeless shelters in December 2018.

Why socks? According to the Salvation Army, socks are the #1 most requested clothing item in homeless shelters.

This is the third year Canvas has worked with local Colorado communities to warm the hearts and soles of the homeless during their Annual Sock Drive. In the last three years, the credit union gathered more than 16,680 pairs of socks and hand delivered them to local homeless shelters. This year donations were collected November 16 through December 15, at all 27 Canvas locations.

“Our members, staff, and the communities we serve once again rallied together to provide a little extra warmth for those in need this Holiday Season.” said Malcolm Johnson, Director of Public Relations and Community Involvement at Canvas. “With the help of our team, we were able to distribute the socks to homeless shelters in Fort Collins, Denver, Loveland, and Greeley.”

The Canvas team delivered the socks to the following Colorado shelters in December 2018:

  • Denver Rescue Mission in Denver
  • House of Neighborly Services in Loveland
  • Guadalupe Community Center in Greeley in Greeley
  • Homeward Alliance in Fort Collins
