Capital Credit Union awards scholarships

GREEN BAY, WI (March 26, 2018) — Capital Credit Union announces the 2018 recipients of the Howard J. Snortland scholarship. Recipients will each receive $1,000 for the 2018-19 school year to help them reach their educational goals.

Karlee Bernhardt, Bismarck, is currently a senior at Legacy High School. She plans on attending North Dakota State University in the fall to pursue a nursing degree.

Naomi Chaffee, Bismarck, is currently a senior at Legacy High School. She plans on attending the University of Minnesota in the fall to study economics and philosophy.

Hannah Dahl, Sterling, is currently attending the University of North Dakota, majoring in communication sciences.

Drew Helten, Bismarck, is currently a senior at Century High School. She plans on attending  the University of North Dakota in the fall to study visual arts and communications.

Madison Jorgenson, Bismarck, is currently a senior at Century High School. She plans on attending Bismarck State College in the fall to study speech-language pathology.

Alexis Kuhn, Lincoln, is currently a senior at Bismarck State College. She plans on attending the University of North Dakota in the fall to pursue a degree in secondary education.

Shaylin Messmer, Bismarck, is currently a senior at Century High School. She plans on attending the University of Mary in the fall to study exercise science.

Erica Solberg, Bismarck, is currently a senior at Century High School. She plans on attending North Dakota State University in the fall to study journalism and pre-law.

The scholarships were presented at Capital Credit Union’s annual member event on Friday, March 23.

Capital Credit Union awarded its first scholarship in 1996 and, since that time, has awarded $109,500 to help 115 young people realize their dream of a college education.

The scholarship is named in honor of Howard J. Snortland, recognizing his 60 years of volunteer service to Capital Credit Union. Snortland was an elementary teacher and served as the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of North Dakota. He also had a long history of volunteerism in the credit union movement. He was an example of a visionary; willing to dream about what the future could hold for credit unions, helping to shape the industry.
