Capitol Hill competition press event marks official start to race weekend in DC

Now in its forty-ninth year, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom will kick-off race weekend activities by hosting its traditional Capitol Hill Competition pre-race press conference on Friday, April 1, at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. The event will feature race officials, sponsors and runners who will participate in the April 3 running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk, including this year’s elite runner, two-time U.S. Olympian Kim Conley.

Sponsored by Credit Union Miracle Day, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile is one of the Nation’s largest ten-mile runs, attracting upwards of 25,000 participants every year. Proceeds from the run benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the official charity of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom. Since credit unions became the title sponsors in 2002, over $10 million has been donated to children’s hospitals nationwide, a large portion of which comes directly from the participation of Congressional staffers working on Capitol Hill.

For over two decades, U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union and Congressional Federal Credit Union have joined forces to sponsor the Capitol Hill Competition. A spirited and friendly competition in which Senate and House offices form teams and compete for the coveted Congressional Cup. The team with the fastest run time displays the Cup in their congressional office for one year. More than 500 Congressional staffers on 61 teams will run to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals this year. They’re joined by over 180 Members of Congress from 45 states who have pledged their support as Honorary Co-Chairs of the race.

Each year during the Capitol Hill Competition pre-race press conference, credit unions present Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals with a donation preceding Congressional Packet Pick-Up, which is happening this year at the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Health & Fitness Expo presented by Wegmans.

Credit Union Miracle Day – More than just a Sponsorship

Credit Union Miracle Day is a partnership of credit unions and partner organizations that collaborate to improve the lives of children and communities across the region. Each year, hundreds of credit union volunteers come together to make a significant impact in their communities and in the lives of children treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since Credit Union Miracle Day became the title sponsor in 2002, the event has raised over $10 million, making credit unions the fifth-largest contributor to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
