Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals benefit from Southeastern Credit Union Foundation Biz Kid$ donations

BIRMINGHAM, AL & TALLAHASSEE, FL (April 14, 2014) — Credit Unions for Kids and the National Credit Union Foundation have partnered to enhance the financial education opportunities for patients and families at every Children’s Miracle Hospital (CMN) hospital in the United States. To take that concept a step further, the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation (SECUF), an affiliate of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates, is donating a box set of the Emmy award winning Biz Kid$ DVDs for all nine CMN hospitals in Alabama and Florida. Now patients and their families can watch entertaining episodes of the Biz Kid$ financial literacy series and put them on the road to taking control of their finances.

“Biz Kid$ has proven to be a great teaching tool,” said LSCU & Affiliates CEO Patrick La Pine. “By donating these box sets, we’re giving kids a chance to understand their finances at an early age. The series does a great job of bringing a complicated subject to the kids’ level and making it fun. In turn, they will be on the path to a better financial future.”

CO-OP Financial Services, a partner of the LSCU & Affiliates, will also pay half of the cost of the DVD sets. The following CMN hospitals will receive a box set:

  • Children’s Hospital of Alabama – Birmingham, AL
  • University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital – Mobile, AL
  • Shands Children’s Hospital at the University of Florida – Gainesville, FL
  • University of Florida and Shands of Jacksonville – Jacksonville, FL
  • Wolfson Children’s Hospital – Jacksonville, FL
  • Miami Children’s Hospital – Miami, FL
  • Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children – Orlando, FL
  • Sacred Heart Foundation – Pensacola, FL
  • All Children’s Hospital – St. Petersburg, FL

Credit unions are encouraged to also purchase box sets through the NCUF and donate them to their local CMN Hospitals. This will give each hospital multiple copies which in turn will reach more children.

Credit unions for Kids are a founding partner with Children’s Miracle Network and the third largest corporate contributor with more than $100 million raised since 1996. Biz Kid$ is the Emmy Award-winning, and credit union-funded, public television series that teaches young people about money management and entrepreneurship.
