Community Gathers For Peaceful Call To Prayer For Adoption

GLENDORA, CA— Adoption advocates, community leaders, and many supporters of forever families met for A Call to Pray For Adoption, a free community event open to the public hosted by America’s Christian Credit Union on February 27th, 2013.

The audience was treated to a special visit from the Pacheco family, who adopted two of their four children. They shared their story, which included the miracle of receiving permission to adopt from the birth father just in time to finalize the adoption. Also, a member of the ACCU staff whose family just received a foster son explained his family’s story and call to open their home.

The highlight of the event was the community prayer led by Dr. Kevin Mannoia, Chaplain of Azusa Pacific University, which offered support to adoption organizations, agencies, birthparents, adoptive parents, and most of all, the children.

Special guests included Joseph A. Santoro, Mayor Pro Tem of Glendora as well as Dr. Cliff Hamlow, Chairman of Glendora’s Legislative Action Committee.

ACCU believes every child deserves a forever family. ACCU’s adoption loan ministry has helped place over 700 children in a loving home, and as a reflection of the beliefs shared by their membership, feel called to do more to advance the cause of the orphan. This call to prayer was planned as a peaceful yet powerful way of standing up for children and adoptive families.

President/CEO Mendell L. Thompson explains, “We are passionate about supporting the cause of the children who do not have a voice. This is one of many initiatives we have planned to generate awareness for adoption, and we could not be happier to have the strong support of our Board, staff, members and friends in the community. In addition, we received word from others across the nation that joined us in prayer at that exact same time. It is a privilege to unite in prayer as one global group of adoption advocates. Thank you to all who attended.”
