Connecticut credit unions support Governor’s Care & Share Food Drive

HARTFORD, CT (February 12, 2015) — The Connecticut Credit Union Charitable Foundation donated $20,000 to Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s Care & Share Food Drive during a news conference on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Credit unions in Connecticut raise thousands of dollars every year to support causes that help feed those in need throughout the state. Proceeds from the Governor’s Care & Share Food Drive support the Connecticut Food Bank and Foodshare.

“It is encouraging to see the overwhelming amount of support from Connecticut’s credit unions who have helped raise money to combat food insecurity,” said David Hinchey, Director of Community Impact for the Credit Union League of Connecticut. “I am also thankful for Governor Malloy’s efforts and the honorable work done by Foodshare and the Connecticut Food Bank.”

Serving Hartford and Tolland counties, Foodshare distributes over 12 million meals to nearly 300 food pantries. Supporting over 700 partner programs, the Connecticut Food Bank distributes 40 tons of food a day and provides a broad range of nutrition and education programs.
