Consumers Credit Union adds locations in Grand Rapids

A new office opens in Wyoming while new ground is broke in Walker

KALAMAZOO, MI (July 30, 2020) — Consumers Credit Union is pleased to announce two new offices in the Grand Rapids area. Consumers’ sixth office opened in June at 54th Street and Haughey Avenue in Wyoming. That same month, construction began in the Standale/Walker area on Consumers’ 22nd West Michigan office.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the 54th St. office last week with members of the Wyoming-Kentwood Chamber of Commerce, local business partners, and Wyoming City Mayor Jake Poll in attendance. The new office, across from Home Depot, offers a full range of financial services, including personal and commercial lending and investment services. The increased office space will also be available for all Consumers’ departments to use as growth in the market leads to greater staffing needs.

In Walker, Consumers held a ceremonial groundbreaking to celebrate their newest office currently under construction. They were joined at the site on Wilson Avenue across of Meijer by representatives from project contractor CopperRock Construction and building designers Bosch Architecture for the photo op.

Both offices feature Consumers’ Interactive Teller machines in the lobbies and drive-thru. These connect members to real-live tellers through a two-way concierge video for transactions that are too complex for an ATM, including cash advances, currency exchange, loan payments and more. The technology also allows for extended service hours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Consumers’ continued investment in advanced banking technology has proven to be a boon in the current global crisis, allowing Consumers employees to continue to serve members virtually, while minimizing exposure risk for the community at large.

“We are very pleased that we can continue to serve our 104,000+ members and protect them and our employees during these challenging times of COVID-19,” said CEO & President Kit Snyder. “We have always been committed to providing local exceptional service to our Grand Rapids communities and are always looking for ways to ensure our members can bank how they want, when they want. Our Interactive Tellers do just that.”

Consumers, which began operations in 1951, currently serves more than over 104,000 members in West Michigan with 21 offices and over $1.4 billion in total assets. The Credit Union has averaged 18% annual growth for the past 35 years and looks forward to continuing this trajectory by expanding its services to its Grand Rapids members with the opening of this newest locations.
