The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU) announced the recipients of the LSCU Awards during the opening general session, annual business meeting, and closing general session at the 2018 Southeast Credit Union Conference & Expo (SCUCE), June 6-8. Three credit unions and four executives were recognized for their outstanding dedication.
The prestigious honors highlight professionals, volunteers, and credit unions that contribute to the growth of these financial institutions, which play a pivotal role in their communities in
Alabama and Florida. Each award was also accompanied by a video highlighting the good works of the honorees.
“Each year, we have an opportunity to review the exceptional work being done by these credit union professionals,” said LSCU President/CEO Patrick La Pine. “This year’s honorees have demonstrated tireless efforts in assisting their communities with financial growth and opportunities, as well as helping during times of need, which was displayed during last year’s destructive hurricane season. It is an honor to recognize their accomplishments with these awards.”
LSCU Award categories and winners were:
- Distinguished Service Award: David Brock, former president/CEO, Community
Credit Union of Florida, Rockledge, Fla.
- Professional of the Year: Laida Garcia, president/CEO, floridacentral Credit Union, Tampa, Fla.
- Young Professional of the Year: Ben Teske, America’s First Federal Credit Union, Birmingham, Ala.
- Volunteer of the Year: Tom Shea, Guardians Credit Union, West Palm Beach, Fla.
- Credit Union of the Year:
- Up to $100 million in assets: Naheola Credit Union, Pennington, Ala.
- $100-$500 million in assets: Community South Credit Union, Chipley, Fla.
- $500 million or more: Alabama One Credit Union, Tuscaloosa, Ala.
As part of his Distinguished Service Award, Brock’s picture will be hung in the Credit Union House Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C.
Recipients of the awards are chosen by the LSCU Awards Committee, which is comprised of representatives from LSCU member credit unions with a focus on credit union and community improvement. The winner is ratified on the basis of the nominations and supporting information received.
