Credit Union West awards scholarships to outstanding seniors

GLENDALE, AZ (May 26, 2105) — Credit Union West awarded three outstanding high school seniors a $1,000 scholarship each for higher education. The winners of the credit union’s second annual awards are Jenna Chaffeur from Prescott High School, Michael Gilboy from Mingus Union High School, and Kaylynn Vavrick from Greenway High School.

“We are very proud of their accomplishments and desire to further their education,” said Bob MacGregor, president/CEO. “Investing in education is an important part of our mission and we aim to recognize those who work hard and are dedicated to investing in themselves.”

The credit union has a long history of supporting several scholarship programs in both Maricopa and Yavapai Counties. The three scholarships total $3,000 and are awarded to Credit Union West members who are high school graduating seniors in Maricopa or Yavapai County with plans to attend an accredited post-secondary institution.

There were 18 applications received, evaluated and graded by the credit union’s executive management team. Each application asked the students to provide information on academic and honors achievements, community service, extracurricular activities and the post-secondary institution they plan to attend. Along with the scholarship application, the students submitted essays about their motivation for higher education and the difference between a credit union and a bank.

Jenna, a Key Club Officer and student council member at Prescott High School, has been accepted to Northern Arizona University’s Honors Program where she plans to study psychology and business.

Michael from Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood plans to attend University of Arizona to study Biomedical Engineering. He’s earned a letter in academic, soccer and track.

Kaylynn from Greenway High School is planning to attend Grand Canyon University to study education. She’s in National Honor Society and is a Girl Scout.
