Credit unions raise over $10,000 in donations for Special Olympics Wisconsin at the Titletown Showdown First Annual Credit Union Challenge

MILWAUKEE, WI (September 27, 2018) — On Saturday, September 15, credit unions from all over Wisconsin competed in a flag football tournament benefitting Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes — the Titletown Showdown First Annual Credit Union Challenge. The event was a collaboration between Corporate Central, Special Olympics Wisconsin, and Wisconsin credit unions. The event was held at the historic City Stadium in Green Bay, where the Green Bay Packers played from 1925 to 1956.

Capital, Fox Communities, Shoreline, Simplicity, and Corporate Central formed flag football teams to compete against one another, with Capital taking home the trophy. Event attendees and volunteers came from credit unions all over Wisconsin, including: Fond du Lac, Governmental Employees, Marshfield Medical Center, N.E.W., Oakdale, Royal, and Verve. Together with our sponsors Fiserv, U.S. Bank and Elan, credit unions raised over $10,000 to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin.

“We are so pleased to have had such an amazing turnout for our first annual event,” said Chris Felton, Corporate Central President/CEO. “Working together and collaborating is what credit unions are all about. We are proud to be part of a strong community of credit unions, and we were thrilled that we could work together to benefit a charitable cause – and of course have some fun while doing it!”

Green Bay Packers alumni, Ahman Green and Bill Schroeder, attended the event during a meet and greet appearance. Raffles and silent auctions were also held during the event to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin.

“We are so thrilled and appreciative to have been a part of the Titletown Showdown First Annual Credit Union Challenge,” said Holly Schultz, Director of Development at Special Olympics Wisconsin. “The support of the credit unions and their efforts will impact the lives of our athletes tremendously!”

“While Special Olympics is well known for its sports programming, athletics serve as a starting point for our services and community impact,” said Michael Mortell, Vice President of Development at Special Olympics Wisconsin. “Beyond the year-round sports training and competition, Special Olympics provides medical screenings for athletes, connecting them with providers for vital services. We foster inclusion in schools to reduce bullying through unified sports, youth leadership, and school-wide engagement. We also engage our athletes to serve in meaningful leadership roles such as Global Messenger, Athlete as Coach, and Health Ambassador. Through this, the impact of your fundraising efforts is so far-reaching. We can’t thank you enough for your support, and we look forward to watching this event grow.”

More information on the Second Annual Titletown Showdown Credit Union Challenge will be announced Spring 2019.
