CUTX partners with Streetside Showers to serve suburban homeless population

ALLEN, TX (October 13, 2020)Credit Union of Texas (CUTX) has partnered with Streetside Showers to provide mobile hot showers and personal hygiene care to the suburban homeless population. This partnership continues CUTX’s commitment to enhance the quality of life for the communities they serve.

Streetside Showers, a Texas-based nonprofit organization serving the homeless community, provides access to fully private showers and personal care items such as shampoo, conditioner, towels, wash cloths, socks and underwear to those in need. Currently with seven locations in Texas and one location in Florida, Streetside Showers can provide 30 to 40 showers for individuals a day. Lance Olinski, founder and CEO of Streetside Showers, said, “We want to restore a little dignity to those in need. One of the most effective dynamics about our model is consistency. We are like a bus stop, same place, same time every week so people know where to come to find us.”

To expand Streetside Shower’s reach, mobility and capability, CUTX has donated a three-stall shower trailer and Dodge Ram 2500truck that will serve multiple locations every week. In addition, the credit union will provide food at operating sites and has promised a five-year donation to offset operating costs.CUTX’s donations will allow Streetside Showers to service Texas communities such as Collin County, Dallas County, Denton County and Grayson County.

CUTX Chief Engagement Officer, Jennifer Olvera, said, “When our CEO, Eric Pointer, was first introduced to Streetside Showers, he shared its mission with our team, and we knew immediately that it was a great opportunity to act on a community need. We recognized a lack of support for the suburban homeless population, and Streetside Showers was the perfect partner to make an impact. CUTX’s goal is to always aid the needs of the communities that we serve.”

“Streetside Showers is extremely appreciative of CUTX’s significant support and generosity, not only with its monetary donations and trailers provided but also with the time and effort the staff has given, especially their own personal time,” Olinski, continued.“That is truly appreciated by everyone at Streetside Showers. Partnerships are essential to our operation, but any level of support helps. Corporate donors don’t have to donate a trailer to make an impact. Giving monetary donations or simply volunteering your time makes a huge difference in the lives of these men and women.”
