Dave Klooster joins the Arbor Financial Team as SBA Manager

KALAMAZOO, MI (October 8, 2020) — Arbor Financial Credit Union is pleased to announce the addition of Dave Klooster as a Small Business Administration (SBA) Manager. Dave brings 30 years of experience in Commercial Lending and will oversee and develop Arbor Financials’ government-guaranteed commercial lending portfolio.

Klooster holds a BA in Economics from Calvin College and an MBA with a Finance Concentration from Cornerstone University. In 2003, he established his own business, where he consulted with small banks and credit unions on SBA 7a loans. SBA loans allow lenders to offer clients flexible terms and low-interest rates, so businesses can grow without the worry of crippling debt.

“It has been a goal of ours to establish an SBA Department to better serve our business members. When the opportunity arose with Dave, we knew we needed to act on it. His knowledge of Commercial and SBA 7a Lending, along with his entrepreneurial mindset, is rare to find. I am looking forward to seeing this area of Commercial Lending grow over the next few years and helping small businesses achieve their goals,” says Judith Robbins, Vice President of Commercial and Private Banking.

Upon completing his MBA, Klooster began teaching finance and economics for Cornerstone University’s Professional and Graduate Studies Program, where he continues to do so part-time. In 2019, he was an Assistant Professor of Economics and Finance, and an Associate Director of the MBA program, at Houghton College but decided to move back into the industry following the academic year.

“I really enjoy working at Arbor Financial because of the highly competent commercial lending management and staff. I’ve worked with plenty of small banks and credit unions as a consultant over the years, and the group I now get to work with at Arbor is clearly one of the best,” says Klooster on joining the Arbor Financial team.

In his free time, Klooster enjoys walking, bike riding, and fishing with his wife and daughter and manages his own rental properties.
