DCCU Cares Day garners statewide recognition

WAYNESBORO, VA (August 23, 2019) — The Virginia Credit Union League recently announced DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) as the winner of the 2019 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award in the over $1Billion asset size category.

DCCU received first place for DCCU Cares Day, an organization-wide day of service to the community. A total of 313 employees spent Columbus Day serving 22 nonprofits throughout Shenandoah Valley, contributing over 1,200 volunteer hours in one day.

“DCCU Cares Day was an expression of our values in action,” said Steve Elkins, DCCU’s President and CEO. “We believe in serving our community through volunteering and are honored to be recognized for our efforts.”

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award, named in honor of early credit union pioneer Dora Maxwell, recognizes socially responsible projects and initiatives undertaken by credit unions within their community. DCCU’s winning entry will be considered for CUNA’s National Award, which will be announced later in the year.
